With September behind us, Fall is truly here.  Halloween will be with us before month’s end.

Today’s Sunday Salon will be all about putting one month to rest and eagerly anticipating the new one.

When I think of October, my thoughts go to Oktoberfest…and even though it actually begins in Munich in September, the images and colors remind me of October.  My eldest son attended Oktoberfest in Munich in 2009.  Here is one photo I love.

I have some fun Halloween decorations that I will be featuring throughout the month.

Meanwhile, let’s look back at September, and this past week.

Of course, this past week was Banned Book Week, and while I didn’t read any, I’m still rereading The Handmaid’s Tale.

Here’s What I Finished (Click Titles for Reviews)

1.  Cat’s Eye, by Margaret Atwood

2.  Hot Property, by Michele, Samantha & Sabrina Kleier

3.  The Most Dangerous Thing, by Laura Lippman

If Sunday is as great as Saturday, it should be wonderful to walk around outside…a park, perhaps, or the mall.

And I’ll probably be carrying Sparky, my Kindle, where I plan to read Virginia Woolf’s To the Lighthouse.

  1. I loved The Handmaid’s Tale and have been wondering about picking up more of Atwood’s books. What did you think of Cat’s Eye? I’m always hesitant to pick up more books by the same author when I’ve loved one. Seems backward, doesn’t it? But I’m always afraid that the next one just won’t be able to live up to the first one.

    1. Oh, I know what you mean, Lisa. But I LOVED Cat’s Eye. It’s different from The Handmaid’s Tale, but the author’s awesome language and visual imagery knocked my socks off in that one, too.

      Another of hers that I really enjoyed was The Robber Bride. She has a number of amazing books. Thanks for stopping by.

  2. I may try to read Cat’s Eye sometime. I think handmaid’s Tale was dystopian fiction wasn’t it? Not my favorite genre, though. I might read Cat’s Eye for the language and visual imagery you describe. Have a great reading week. By the way, I think you may borrow The Language of Flowers from the library first 🙂

    I have never really gotten into Atwood, can’t remember if it was anything specific or even which ones I have read that turned me off.

    1. Oh, yes, that pretzel is tempting, isn’t it? I like some of Atwood’s books better than others, but nothing stands out too much, except the ones I really, really liked…The Robber Bride, Cat’s Eye, The Handmaid’s Tale. Thanks for stopping by, Gwen.

  5. My week was pretty good. I managed to get some good reading in, but no banned books unfortunately!

  6. I didn’t have any specific banned books planned to read, but it turns out that Cat in the Hat was banned, and my son read it to me, so we had unintentional banned book reading in my house. 🙂
