Welcome to The Sunday Salon, our great big reading room in which we gather to explore our reading, blogging, and life moments.
This past week has been a poignant reminder that the TV season is winding down, with season finales right and left: like Castle, Grey’s Anatomy, Private Practice, and Criminal Minds. There are others, too, but these are some of my favorites.
Now more than ever I’ll be turning to my DVDs and the On Demand featured films. And, of course, my books.
Today I watched a DVD that I’ve had my eye on for awhile, but this week I finally got it. Blue Valentine (click the title for the review) is one of those unforgettable films that portrays real life with its joy, its pain, and the gritty moments that remind us that we’re human.
Then I read for awhile on a book that’s on next week’s list. I’ll be telling more about those books on my Monday Memes post.
I had a great reading week, with several memorable books.
Books Read & Reviewed-Click Titles for Reviews:
1. Love You More, by Lisa Gardner
2. The Long Journey Home, by Margaret Robison (a memoir) (Amazon Vine review)
3. Out of Balance, by Angela Lam Turpin (Review Book)
My Sunday plans might include that new “chick flick” Something Borrowed.
Or I might just read and read and read.
What about the rest of you? Big plans in the outdoors? Get-togethers? I hope you’ll pop in and say hello.
Where did you get your bckgd? I luv it. It looks like Vancouver, BC. The totem poles remind me of a book I read titled The Forest Lover. It’s about an artist who lived in British Columbia. I think she painted totem poles. This is a beautiful backgd. Well, looks like you enjoyed your week. Blue Valentine looks wonderful. Usually, we get DVD’s from Netflix. Lisa Gardener’s book looks good too.

I really need to sign up for Netflix!
The background comes from a picture my photographer son took of Tiki memorabilia…we found them in a restaurant in Modesto, CA. We went on a journey throughout the state, hunting for these mementos that he took back with him to a friend in Prague.
It was a great journey!
I have a folder of photos he took that day. Thanks for stopping by and commenting, Tea.

Ooo, Blue Valentine is a movie I want to see. I haven’t been to the movies in so long. Ugh, I need to change that with all the new summer movies coming out soon.

Yes, it definitely was an “out there” movie, which I enjoyed.
Thanks for stopping by, Amy, and hope you get to the movies soon!

I will not lie. Neither of the movies look like my cup of tea. However, I will pass on the recommendations to my wife. They look like she would drink them up. 🙂

As it turned out, I wasn’t able to see Something Borrowed today…my daughter needed me to babysit at the last minute. He doesn’t enjoy movies like this! LOL

I can’t say that I’ve seen Blue Valentine, but I did go see the newest Pirates movie and it was phenomenal! Definitely better than the second or third.
And I love Criminal Minds, I’m just sad that I haven’t had much of a chance to see this season :[

I’ve never seen Criminal Minds, but I know several people who LOVE that show. I will definitely suggest Something Borrowed to my wife. Like Unfinished Person, it looks like the type of movie my wife would like as well. 🙂
I definitely echo other comments on Netflix. We have it, and it’s definitely a great deal. As a result of subscribing to it, we really don’t go to movies anymore and have a full queue.
This week is just work, I might take Friday off and have an extended holiday weekend. Thanks for dropping by my blog earlier!

I forgot that Blue Valentine was out on DVD. I’ll have to check it out. Bridesmaids is a fun chick flick. A little raunchy, but if you don’t mind that, it is pretty funny.
