BOOKISH FRIDAY: “DAISY DARKER”

Welcome to another Bookish Friday, in which we  share excerpts from books…and connect with other bloggers who do the same.

Let’s begin the celebration by sharing Book Beginnings, hosted by Rose City Reader; and let’s showcase The Friday 56 with Freda’s Voice.

To join in, just grab a book and share the opening lines…along with any thoughts you wish to give us; then turn to page 56 and excerpt anything on the page.

Today’s feature is one of my new books:  Daisy Darker, by Alice Feeney.

Book Beginning:

I was born with a broken heart..

The day I arrived into this lonely little world was also the first time I died.  Nobody spotted the heart condition back then.  Things weren’t as sophisticated in 1975 as they might be now, and my blue coloring was blamed on my traumatic birth.

Friday 56:

The rest of the evening is a blur at best.  I’m exhausted, but I never seem to be able to sleep these days, and the atmosphere in the house feels even more polluted than before.

Synopsis:  Daisy Darker was born with a broken heart. Now after years of avoiding each other, Daisy Darker’s entire family is assembling for Nana’s 80th birthday party in her crumbling gothic house on a tiny tidal island. The family arrives, each of them harboring secrets. When the tide comes in, they will be cut off from the rest of the world for eight hours.

But at the stroke of midnight, as a storm rages, Nana is found dead. And an hour later, the next family member follows…

Trapped on an island where someone is killing them one by one, the Darkers must reckon with their present mystery as well as their past secrets, before the tide goes out and all is revealed. As seen on the TODAY show and picked by Book of the Month, Daisy Darker’s family secrets and Alice Feeney’s trademark shocking twists will keep readers riveted.

What do you think?  Would you keep reading?

I love the set up of Alice Feeney books, the whole ‘no one can leave and one of us is a killer’-vibe! But that beginning really caught my attention, it’s a great opener! I hope you enjoy this one! Have a lovely weekend 🙂
