WEEKLY UPDATES: BOOKS, MOVIES, ETC.

Good morning! Today’s post will link up to The Sunday Salon, The Sunday Post and Stacking the Shelves, for weekly updates.

**Mailbox Monday is hosted at the home site: Mailbox Monday.

And let’s join Kathryn, our leader in It’s Monday! What Are You Reading?, at Book Date.

What a great reading week I had!  Four books, all page turners…of course, there was that one book I DNFed (Fates & Furies).  Yes, disappointing, but the other four books were fabulous.

This week, I loved both episodes of This is Us:  the Post Superbowl feature, and the regular Tuesday event.  Sadly, we now have to wait until after the Olympics for more… (Not a sports fan here, lol).

I finished Mindhunter, Season I, on Netflix.  I also enjoyed the movie Wonder on Amazon Prime.

In early March, The Good Fight is returning to CBS All-Access.  I can’t wait!

So, those are the highlights…let’s grab some coffee and take a closer look at the week.

    1. Thanks, Elizabeth; I surprised myself, as I started reading a book that I later abandoned…and it took up a whole day of my time! But then every book I picked up afterwards was riveting.

The author of Paris Ever After said that you recommended me for the book…thanks!

Yay for four good books! I’ll probably be watching a bit of Olympics, although I don’t get into the winter games nearly as much as I do the summer ones.

Paris Ever After- nice cover! And Look For Me looks like a book I’d like lol.

    Yum! THAT looks delicious!!!

Four out of five winning books is awesome, Laurel-Rain. I’m sorry about the DNF though. Paris Ever After looks like it will be good. And all your new purchases sound like ones I would want to read too. You have some good reading ahead of you! Have a great week! (And now you’ve made me hungry. LOL)

    1. Thanks, Wendy, I’m eager to start reading all the new books…but I have some others I must read first. No worries, though. They all sound good to me.

I’m hungry, too. I didn’t end up ordering the Shepherd’s Pie today…just split pea soup. But it was good, too.

But I may have to have the Shepherd’s Pie tomorrow! Enjoy your week!

    1. So do I, Kimberly, check out the top right image on my sidebar…that was my A-frame house in the foothills, complete with a red door! I don’t live there anymore, but I have fond memories of the door.

I am also hoping for another great week. Enjoy yours!

    1. Thanks, Deb, and I hope you make it through the books…but how huge are they? I have been diving into some of my thicker books this year, but most of mine this past week were 300-400, so they went by quickly.

      Enjoy!

    1. Thanks, Trish, I love Lisa Gardner’s books, too…and also Lisa Unger’s and Lisa Scottoline’s…LOL. I’m sure there is another favorite Lisa as well, which I will recall later today. That’s how my mind works sometimes.

Enjoy your week, and if you start watching This is Us, you won’t be able to stop!

    1. Thanks, Lexxie, I started watching This is Us because of the actor Justin Hartley (Kevin); he was in one of my favorite soaps, so I followed him. However, the story and all the characters kept me tuning in.

Enjoy your week and your books. Thanks for visiting.

    1. Thanks, Evelina, I can’t figure out the few denials I’ve had, which mention my “profile” in a form letter. My profile is fine…and other publishers like it. LOL.

I had two denials from favorite authors who I have previously reviewed when they directly sent me their books…so I guess the author doesn’t have feedback on the decisions. Although I know that they can send an approval link. I may have to contact them myself.

Anyway…enjoy your week, and thanks for visiting.

Four books, what a great week!
I’m looking forward to most of these books– Scottoline’s, Jane Harper’s, and Alafair Burke’s new one. I read that Lisa Gardner and it was really good, as all her books are to me 🙂 Enjoy your coming week, which I’m sure you will, since you read dining out and have the most fun!

    1. Thanks, Kari, I like how you mentioned my reading and dining out. I do love reading and eating, and it is more fun when I’m out. Plus, I don’t feel quite as introverted when I’m sort of interacting (with servers, most of whom know my name!).

Enjoy your week, and thanks for visiting.

  4. My experience with Fates & Furies was similar. I borrowed it from the library, couldn’t get interested in it (only read a few chapters) so returned it. Thought I might try again “some day” but not sure that day will come. Sounds like you may have given it more time than I did…

    1. I am sorry that I gave it so much time, JoAnn; 40%, I think. I did want to like it, so I guess I thought maybe something about it would click for me. It didn’t. Sigh.

I think I’m sending it back to the Cloud. Enjoy your week!

You had a great week! Paris Ever After looks really good. I do love my TV shows, but I’m sort of glad for the pre-emptions until after the Olympics so I can catch up on my reading 🙂 Have a great week!

  6. I’m a huge Maggie O’Farrell fan and I Am, I Am, I Am sounds so interesting. I’ll definitely need to read it. I also heard great things about Force of Nature, but I still need to read The Dry. Hope you have a great week and happy reading!

I do like watching the Olympics, but sometimes I’m kind of reading at the same time. I forgot about Wonder on Prime — I wanted to watch that. I really want to read I Am, I Am

    1. Thanks for visiting, Harvee, and if I don’t manage to actually get to Paris, I will have read books and watched movies set there. It’s almost as good…right? Without the fuss of airlines and luggage. Enjoy your week!

  8. I can’t watch an episode of This is Us without crying. It gets me every time! I do love the Olympics. I always watched them with my mom while growing up, so now I am trying to get my kids to love them too. Hope you have a wonderful week.

  9. I love the cover art for By the Book and I’ll be interested to hear what you think of this debut. If it’s too fluffy, I may pass. I have no intentions of passing on Force of Nature, however! I loved The Dry and can’t wait to read this second in the series. I’m also eager to start watching This Is Us. Haven’t watched a single episode but it sounds like a winner. We’ve just finished Broadchurch and I’m ready for a new series. That lunch looks amazing! What is the dish on the left? Shepherd’s Pie?? Yum!

    1. Oh, I hope you love This Is Us…I’m also addicted to Broadchurch and hope for another season soon.

That dish is Shepherd’s Pie…and when I went to the restaurant to have some on Monday, it is off the menu. For now. Sigh.

I hope to love By the Book. Thanks for stopping by, Les.

    1. Thanks for visiting, Katherine, and I gave Fates & Furies 40%…because I really wanted to like it. Sigh.

As for Wonder, I was scrolling through the “new movies” on Prime, and there it was! It was good.

I hope you do try a Lisa Gardner book…she has many good ones, and while most are part of a series, they can stand alone, as each book has its own story. Characters recur…but the author gives us enough back story so we’re not lost. Enjoy!

  10. Hi Laurel, I’m late to your post this past week …. I will blame a leaking roof for throwing me into chaos. I think we have stopped the problem though I remain a bit frazzled. I see you are considering the Jane Harper book … I liked her first mystery so I might read this one as well. And I finished watching the TV series of Big Little Lies. Oh my … very entertaining. I think there will be a Season 2, so stay tuned.
