Another week has flown by.  The three books that I read and reviewed were wonderfully suspenseful.  One was a NetGalley ARC, so now I am finished with my January review books.

Last Sunday, I saw The Post, with Meryl Streep and Tom Hanks…and thoroughly enjoyed it.

On Netflix, I saw the movie Mudbound, based on the book by Hillary Jordan.  This weekend, I will binge-watch Season 4 of Grace & Frankie.

Let’s take a closer look at the week.  I’m grabbing more coffee.

  1. I rather enjoyed Seeing Red and about 60% through the JAK Promise Not to Tell. Like that too – my level of suspense!! Not too much horror. Nice to see The Promise Between Us has been added to your library.

    1. I do love nice quiet weeks, Lexxie, and I am excited about my new books, too; while I was at Stacking the Shelves earlier, I noticed that the final Nicci French book (The Day of the Dead) will be out July 24. I pre-ordered it.

  3. Lie With Me is such a good read! I read it late last year and haven’t managed to review it as yet but it’s one of those books that has really stayed in my mind. I really want to read the new Chris Bohjalian, I love his books and this one sounds very good. I hope you have a good week ahead and that you enjoy your new books.

    1. Thanks, Hayley, and I love books that stay in my mind. There are a lot of titles with “lie” in them…and I almost thought Lie With Me was the other book I’ve been wanting, Let Me Lie, coming in March.

    1. Thanks, Mary, I have been so eager to read this next Bohjalian, and it won’t be long before I can (March release date). As for the new Hepworth, I hadn’t requested it, but I just got the approval one day. I love those surprises.

    I love a good suspenseful book! Glad they were good. Lie With Me looks good too. I guess I’m still on a psychological thriller kick, just like I was last year. They keep calling to me. 🙂

    I’m glad you liked the woman in the Window too. I really enjoyed it- it had atmosphere. Almost like watching an old movie ha ha.

    1. Thanks, Katherine, I love Tom Hanks, too, and, of course, Meryl Streep. A winning combination.

      I can’t wait to read The Flight Attendant…I feel like I’ve been waiting for it forever.

      I wouldn’t mind having more pot roast today, but I wanted to stay in. I binge-watched Season 4 of Grace & Frankie…and it keeps getting better and better.

  7. Unfortunately, my toe is infected again so I had to see the doctor mid-week. I got a different scrip of antibiotics that I’m not sure is working. But, the good stuff are I bought some more stamps at Michael’s and fabric and stamps at Joann’s! Wanted to use their 20% coupons before they had expired, LOL.

    The cover of Lie With Me is SO beautiful! I love that so much and it makes me want to read it hahaha. Suspense is less my thing than others, I don’t read a ton of it, but I’m usually pleasantly surprised when I do.

    1. Thanks, Vani, and I love the cover, too. I don’t know when I turned to reading mostly suspense, but at some point thrillers became my usual read. However, I do love taking little breaks and enjoying cozy mystery and women’s fiction. To “cleanse the palate.”

    1. Thanks, Kathy, and I have a feeling I will still enjoy The Flight Attendant.

      I have tried to arrange my review dates so I don’t feel too much pressure; I had a total of four January books, which were sort of spread out, and then the last two were on the 23rd! So, best laid plans and all…I’m relieved to be done with them, but they were wonderful books.

      I love pot roast, and something about the French version has me wanting a good recipe to make it at home, even though I don’t cook very much anymore. LOL. Enjoy your week!

    The quiet weeks are the best, aren’t they:) I have Mudbound to watch this week. I didn’t realize it was based on a book. So many books are being made into movies. I like to read the books first. Do you? or do you like to see the movie first?

    1. If I can read the book first, I like to do so. But sometimes it works out the other way. I really enjoyed the book Mudbound, which I read a few years ago, and then I could relate to the movie.

      But I saw the movie ROOM before reading the book…and then didn’t finish the book. I didn’t like it as much as the movie.

    I hope you enjoy THE FAMILY NEXT DOOR…it seemed different from her other books, but it was good.

    1. I almost stopped reading Bohjalian when I didn’t really like The Sandcastle Girls and DNFed it…but then I picked up The Guest Room, followed by The Sleepwalker…and I remembered why I had loved the first one I read: Midwives. So now I’m a big fan.

  38. Darn you’ve seen The Post before me. I Must see it soon! I did see Mudbound and felt the end was quite agonizing. Yikes, gives me the creeps, but it’s an effective film. If you get a chance, you might like The Darkest Hour too. (about Churchill ….).

      Now I must check out The Darkest Hour, as I’ve loved other movies featuring Churchill. I saw one a few years ago called The Gathering Storm, with Albert Finney as Winston.

  39. I have definitely not finished my January review books, but I’m making my way through them slowly but surely. I also love the mix of books you have, it makes for a really diverse set of reads and reviews, something I’ve been having to pay more attention to as I schedule my reviews and blog posts. The pot roast also looks absolutely divine. Happy reading and happy eating!
