WEEKLY UPDATES: RAINY DAY READING & MOVIES…

Good morning! Today’s post will link up to The Sunday Salon, The Sunday Post and Stacking the Shelves, for weekly updates.

**Mailbox Monday is hosted at the home site: Mailbox Monday.

And let’s join Kathryn, our leader in It’s Monday! What Are You Reading?, at Book Date.

Another month is almost half gone, and what do we have to show for it?  Well, there has been some reading…and some movie watching.  I read and reviewed three books, and one of them was a chunkster (600+ pages).  That book inspired some movie watching, as it was a biography of Jane Fonda.  I downloaded some of her old movies through Amazon Prime (Klute, Sunday in New York, and Barefoot in the Park), and brought some others to my bedroom, and they are waiting on this little table (below).

Speaking of Jane Fonda, Season 4 of Grace and Frankie is coming to Netflix on January 19.  Yay!  I love that show so much that I tend to binge-watch the whole new season in one day…which then means I’m waiting a while for what comes next.  Sigh.

Disjointed just released Season 2…and I saw Kathy Bates on The Talk yesterday.

For most of the week, I stayed home—trying to keep my eating out to a minimum—plus, the weather was in the 60s, with some rainy days.  On those kinds of days, I like to curl up on one of my sofas and read or watch movies.

Let’s grab some coffee and take a closer look at the week:

  1. Other People’s Houses is on my wish list. I loved the author’s first novel. Have a nice weekend, Laurel. I’d take your 60s in exchange for my (at the moment) single digits. We’re supposed to warm up a bit by next weekend. Fingers crossed 🙂

    1. Thanks, Mary, I thought that author’s name sounded familiar! I haven’t read The Garden of Small Beginnings, but I’ve been eyeing it. I just now bookmarked it on Amazon so I can get it at some point.

Enjoy your week, and I’m sorry it’s so cold where you are. For some reason, the 60s are feeling especially cold to me this week…while last week, the temps felt balmy. But I guess it was 66 last week…lol.

Oh 60’s (even with rain) sounds so good right now! And I do love watching movies on a rainy day- so relaxing. 🙂 You did read a lot too this week looks like- wow!

I just finished The Woman in the Window today and loved it. And of course I love that soup lol.

    1. Thanks for visiting, Greg, and yes, 60s are not that bad. Especially if you stay indoors…LOL.

I am also loving The Woman in the Window, although right now I’m watching an Amazon Prime movie called Rebel in the Rye (about J. D. Salinger). Kevin Spacey plays his writing instructor.

      The soup was very good!

It sounds like your month has gotten off to a great start, Laurel-Rain. I feel like I’ve already read a month’s worth of books already. I know it won’t last. I’ll probably slow down now that the year is underway. I hope you are enjoying The Woman in the Window. I finished it last night. I hope you have a great week, Laurel-Rain! It’s probably too much to ask for more rain, isn’t it? I’m happy to see snow on the distant mountain tops again. Take care!

  4. Staying indoors while it’s cold sounds like a good idea to me 🙂 I love winter for that reason to be honest, no excuse needed to not go outside haha it’s summer here at the moment, it’s been humid and we’re in for some storms over the next few days (which is good, we need the rain!)

It sounds like you had a productive week! I hope you enjoy your new reads, and the movies you have waiting for you.

    1. Thanks, Laura, The Woman in the Window is different than I expected…but it is better!

I have enjoyed following Jane Fonda’s journey over the years, in movies and in her ways of reinventing herself..

      Have a great week!

  5. I’ll look forward to your thoughts on Fire & Fury! Some great new books including Rachel Abbott’s The Sixth Window – I’ve met this author as she lives on one of the other Channel Islands and she’s such a lovely lady – I’m going to be reading her next book Come a Little Closer very soon.

    1. Thanks, Cleo, I enjoyed Stephen Colbert’s interview with Michael Wolff, and I hope that we someday (soon?) see the last of all the chaos happening in the White House.

I am looking forward to The Sixth Window. This will be my first read of the author. Enjoy your week!

  6. My wife loves Grace and Frankie, but I have yet to see it. She’s rarely wrong about shows as she recommended Narcos a long time ago and I’m finally getting to it and loving it.

The soup and margarita look lovely, by the way. Soup is perfect for this time of year. Margaritas are good all the time. 🙂

I love Grace and Frankie! I’m looking forward to the new season. Your books look really good. I want to read Growing up Fisher. I wonder if I can get that one on audio. I’ll have to check my library. Have a great week!

    1. Thanks for stopping by, Yvonne, and I am excited about the new Grace & Frankie season, too…and also about Growing up Fisher. I like Joely Fisher, and her mom, Connie Stevens, is a good comedienne.

      Enjoy your week!

  8. Glad to see you got Fire & Fury. Stick it to the Man, lol. Every day it’s some new outrage with this presidency. I can’t take it much longer! Let me know what you think of The Woman in the Window, that looks like a page-turner. Enjoy your week.

    1. Oh, you nailed it, Susan…it is something new and outrageous every day. I’m afraid to look at the news to see how far over the edge he has gone. Unfortunately, with Congress full of Old White Republicans, I see little hope ahead. It will take something that is bad enough to wake them up!

I am loving The Woman in the Window. Enjoy your week, too.

    1. Thanks, Candace, I love when a show I enjoy continues, and in this show, it is surprising to me how such diverse individuals enjoy it…like my daughter. She doesn’t usually like any of the shows I enjoy. LOL

Fire and Fury will probably make me mad, too…and I may throw things. I’m waiting for a calm period in my life to start in.

    1. Thanks, Harvee, I love the look of Other People’s Houses, too. And when I saw the movie The Post yesterday, I felt hope that we might triumph eventually. I hope reading the book makes me feel hopeful as well, although it may just make me impatient. It just feels like it’s taking too long!

    1. It was Tomato Basil Bisque soup, and so delicious. The margarita is a strawberry one. My favorite pick these days.

I love the soups at CPK…and also at Mimi’s.

Thanks for visiting, Stefanie, and now I am craving that soup today! LOL

  9. Hi Lorraine,

I know what you mean about the time passing by so quickly. No sooner is Christmas over and the children gone back to school, than the Easter eggs have begun to appear on the supermarket shelves and the mum’s are talking about February half-term school holidays!

You have a great selection of thrillers on offer this week, all by new to me authors. I would like to add them all to my own ‘Want To Read’ shelf, but it is already groaning under the weight of books.

From the potted highlights of US news that we are drip fed, here in the UK, nothing on earth would persuade me to read ‘Fire and Fury’, unless I had first been locked in a padded cell. If you survive the ordeal, I’ll catch up with you later and have a great reading week 🙂

    1. Thanks, Yvonne, and a part of me would love to ignore what is happening in the White House…but that’s not me. So I’ll plunge onward.

Sometimes I wish it were all a nightmare.

Enjoy your week and your books. Thanks for visiting.

I did go out to eat once last week. Olive Garden has some lovely late lunch/early dinner specials. I was feeling a little housebound because of the cold but now I’m ready to stay in for a while again. Come see my week here. Happy reading!

    1. Thanks, Kathy, and if I could arrange for my favorite restaurants to deliver, I probably wouldn’t ever leave the house…LOL. Seriously, though, I do enjoy getting out, but it takes a little effort when the indoors is so cozy.

Enjoy your books and your week!

    1. Thanks, Heidi, and when I was approved for Other People’s Houses, I thought the author’s name sounded familiar…and then I realized she wrote Garden of Small Beginnings, which I now must read.

I am not a fan of January either…or any month leading up to tax time…Yuk! I am always glad to move past that time.

      Enjoy your week!

  13. We are trying to cut down on our eating out as well and the fact that it is crazy cold helps because I don’t want to leave the house! The hibernation tendencies are strong in me! I don’t know much about Jane Fonda other than her workout videos so seeing her act is intriguing. The Woman in the Window is high up on my TBR. It sounds great. Have a great week!

The cold weather does keep me indoors more, and I love watching movies and reading, curled up on the couch. Enjoy your week!
