As I sit at my laptop in my cozy office, I am enjoying the warmth from the heater…it is on for the first time this season!  For a while, I thought summer heat would go on forever…then the cooler days arrived, and for a little while we were in that limbo between hot and cold.

But now that I am snuggling under the covers at night, and today felt chilly for the first time, I took the leap and turned the system on.  I like the first heated morning as it takes the chill off.  I will snuggle up on my sofa in the office and read…and watch TV.  And practice my attitude of gratitude.

For now, let’s talk about last week.  I read the three books I had planned to read!  It has been a while since that happened.  First I read an e-book that I had downloaded several months ago, which brought my challenge total to 104...and then I grabbed two NetGalley ARCs and inhaled them.  They were sooo good.

But…then I started picking up books, reading a few pages, and tossing them aside.  Until I remembered a little book I’d been wanting to read forever.  In fact it had been on Pippa for three years!  So I started reading…and a few hours later, I was done.  Now that’s how it should be!

So…as for the rest of the week, I started a new series on Netflix called Wanted.  I watched movies and shows from my DVR…and then yesterday, I learned that Longmire has a sixth season available.  So I’ll be watching it today…or tomorrow.

I also want to see the movie Lady Bird, with Saoirse Ronan.  Earlier in the week, I had lunch with a friend and we saw Murder on the Orient Express.  So it has been a week of books and movies.

    How was the new movie of Murder on the Orient Express? I think the Young Jane Young novel looks like a good topical one. I’d read her again as well. I plan to see Lady Bird too — whenever it gets here. Enjoy your week!

    Ah yes the heat is on here too, now that the cold has arrived. Our low is 32 tonight! Yikes. And it’s been raining for two days. 🙂

    I want to see Murder on the Orient Express. Fragments of the Lost is one I’ve been eyeing as well. I liked the earlier Megan Miranda I read…

  5. An attitude of gratitude is the best way to be 🙂 it’s been really cool here, but unfortunately, we don’t have control over the heating. It’s a condo and it just heats as much it heats – all you can do is turn it down, and it’s really not heating all that much xD so we’re kind of walking around wrapped in blankets. Boyfriend is currently sitting in a big pink and fluffy sweater he had to borrow from me 😀 cause it’s just too cold and his stuff is in the wash! LOL

    I’ve heard good things about Young Jane Young!

Thanks for visiting, Evelina; I spent most of my adult life with central heating, but then, for thirteen years in the mid-nineties to 2007, we lived in a house in the foothills with no central heating, so I spent a lot of days huddled up in layers. Afterwards I had a real appreciation for reliable heat!

    The Storied Life of A.J. Fikry has been on my shelf for a while now. I keep reading great things about it. I’m going to have to read it soon! Merry & Bright is also waiting for me.

  8. How was Murder on the Orient Express? That will probably be our Thanksgiving weekend movie choice this year… might be the only thing we can all agree on, too! The first winter storm of the season is just beginning – probably 6-8″ of snow by Monday morning. Wish we were already in Florida! Your pre-Thanksgiving dessert and Irish coffee are the perfect treat… hope you have a happy Thanksgiving!

  17. We’ve just had a series of frosty mornings, so are well past the stage where we are just turning on the heating:). But when it’s not too brisk even I like snuggling– oh who am I trying to kid?? I ALWAYS hate the cold, or the cool, or the not very warm… anything, in fact, that isn’t downright hot. And I’m living in the wrong part of the world! Am now trying to find an attitude of gratitude, though that might have to wait until Spring… Have a great week, Laurel.     You had a great reading week. The Great Alone looks really good. You can’t go wrong with Kristen Hannah. I have A Bella Flora Christmas to read too. I just saw that the new season (and I think the last) of Longmire is on Netflix. I’ll be watching that when I get caught up on my DVR shows. Hope you have a great week.

  20. The weather has taken a dip towards properly cold here too – I like the look of the Kirsten Hannah but it isn’t on the UK NetGalley which is a shame.
    I’ve had a run of really good reads and know that at some point I’ll hit that moment where everything seems a little flat – fortunately I have some great new books from the book sale for just such a moment.

    1. Thanks, Kathryn, and I’ve had my share of turn-downs on NetGalley…so I was surprised to get this one.

      I am also a big fan of KH…there should be a box we could check for “Number One Fan”! LOL.. Remember the book Misery?

  27. It’s getting cold here too – we had a huge snow day, looking outside you would think it’s Christmas time. Winter is my favorite season though so I’m okay with it.
    Love your reading selection, too: I have Fragments of the Lost and Young Jane Young coming soon in the mail, so I’d love to hear your thoughts on those too. Happy reading!

  30. My week was another one of mostly reading and cooking.

    Your week sounds great. I am currently on the train to New York to see my son for Thanksgiving, and then we are driving to Maryland to have Thanksgiving with my sisters.

    We have had a cold week…furnace has been on for about four weeks here.

    1. Thanks for visiting, Kathy, and in our part of the world, the long hot summers go into October…LOL. So a cooler season is welcome. I am happy not to have really cold weather, though, and prefer to VISIT snow rather than live in it.

  33. Sounds like a great week! I love when I get kind of in a reading groove and am just flying through them. Or when I’ve been in a bit of a slump and finally find the book that clicks! I’m on the fence about Murder on the Orient Express. I’m intrigued and I like the casting but at the same time I’m such a fan of the book that I’m not sure I want to see it! Have a great week!

    1. Thanks, Katherine, I haven’t even read the Murder on the Orient Express book…but my expectations were so high that I was a bit disappointed.

      However, I think if (and when) I see it again at home, I will enjoy it more.

    1. Thanks, Cheryl, I love both Macomber and Wax, and have been a fan for years. I am behind a little on Debbie’s books…but Wendy’s series is one I’ve been religiously buying whenever a new one comes out.

  38. It is always lovely to enjoy the reading. Hope it continues for you. That is a nice looking piece of pie. We have pumpkin roll which I now realize we forgot to bring with us for our motorcoach trip. At least it is frozen so we will enjoy it when we get home. I hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving ..we should all exercise our attitude of gratitude. Happy Reading!
