Turning the calendars in my house to September was a cheery thing.  I love fall, and I am now visualizing it.  Isn’t visualizing a thing you want a good way to get it?   Or not, since it is still triple digits here.  But that’s okay, as I know that falling leaves signal the upcoming crispy season.  Now I’m also visualizing apples, pumpkins, and cooler weather.

My reading was all over the place this week, as I picked up print books from my nightstand, and then turned to my Kindle for more, a peripatetic cycle that finally led to the completion of three books.  My Read the Books You Buy Total:  78.

My purchased books for the month of August exceeded the numbers in previous months, totaling 17 books, my highest number since January when I bought 19 books!  I had been patting myself on the back for decreasing numbers in May, June, and July...but then I went wild.

Today I plan to curl up and read some of my books…and stay off the Amazon site.  LOL. 

On TV, I continued watching The Sinner; caught another show about Princess Diana; and started a new series on Netflix with Kathy Bates:  Disjointed.  I added a show called What Happened to Monday to my queue.  I may settle down with a few of these over the weekend.

Now…while we grab some coffee, let’s take a closer look at last week.

  2. I wish there was a place close to me where I could get one of those nice margaritas you share every now and then! Frozen margaritas or daiquiris are the best!
    Your new books look great, I hope you’ll enjoy them all.
    I got my wish granted… our temps are down from 94 to 59… and it’s really nice, I sleep so much better when it’s cooler 🙂

    1. Thanks for visiting, Lexxie, and I am so eager for cooler weather. I don’t like sleeping with an oscillating fan in the background, but leaving the AC on all night would be worse. The PG&E bills are huge in the summers.

  6. That margarita looks juicy! I’m glad you got a copy of My Absolute Darling — you can tell me if it’s too disturbing a storyline for me. It’s gotten quite a bit of hype for sure. It sounds like you went on a book-buying spree in August / too many alluring summer books – I can relate. Have a great week but stay off Amazon for a bit, LOL.

    1. Yes, I need to “curb my enthusiasm” for the books that call to me. For a while, I was putting off buying them, just bookmarking them…and I don’t know what happened. But it needs to stop, or I’ll never finish them all.

      I love the strawberry margaritas. For a while, it was all about pomegranate martinis, and then the place where I got them changed bartenders and they tasted like medicine…LOL.

  7. I am right there with you in the imagery of fall, Laurel-Rain! Today it was 108 and the air was filled with smoke from nearby fires. I’m looking forward to the chill in the air as evening falls and the leaves changing colors. I ended up buying a lot of books in August too. Although most of mine was to get first in series to which I have the second or third book already. I hope you enjoy your new books!

    Your salad put me in the mood for a salad for dinner tonight . . . I think that’s exactly what I’ll have.

    1. Thanks, Wendy, we both need cooler weather…and for the fires to stop!

      I started the day off well, with light meals…and then I started bingeing on snack food…the kind that is light in calories, but if you eat five or six of them, you might as well give up the idea of healthy or light. LOL.

    It was weird turning our calendar to September, it just feels way too soon? I do love fall so I don’t mind too much, and I’m already getting in the mood for autumny things, lol. Cider, apples, stew… and pumpkin spice everything ha ha.

    I’ve been curious about Sinner, may try it. After a bit of a hiatus I’ve been Netflixing a lot more this week… 🙂

    1. Thanks, Greg, and when I turn the calendars to September, I start thinking about buying my new ones for 2018. I have three calendars in all, for various rooms. I used to buy a lot more, when I had a bigger house, but I only need three now.

      2017 hasn’t been a great year—mostly because of the craziness of 45 and worry about what will happen next. But since I don’t have any control over any of it, I need to refocus my energy and my thoughts.

      On Netflix today, I started watching Nurse Jackie, which I saw on Showtime in episodes. I like the idea of being able to watch as much as I want.

  13. I love September and fall. Like you I visualize the cooler weather, falling leaves, crisp mornings and crisp apples! It just seems to fly by so quickly though! You got lots of good looking books. I’ll Have What She’s Having brings back memories of Nora Ephron’s movies. They’re classics as far as I’m concerned!

  16. Yes… sadly I’m also visualising Autumn – but it’s suddenly a whole lot nippier here for us than it is for you! As for falling off the waggon Amazon-wise – I feel your pain, though I think it happens to all of us. We wouldn’t be book addicts otherwise. I hope you have a good week and that it is finally cooler for you – the ideal would be some of that heat making its way to us for a fabulous Indian summer!

  18. You always feature the best looking food. We had cooler temps this weekend and some drizzle but I can’t complain – the poor people in the Gulf area. Amazon is a killer isn’t it. I’ve been buying too many books lately – kindle and physical, but I keep telling myself there’s worse things I could buy.

    1. Thanks, Barb, I do love the food in my neighborhood restaurants. One of my favorites (The Elephant Bar) just closed down, sadly. I found out earlier today when I went there (for lunch), which didn’t happen, of course.

      Amazon is definitely to blame for my out-of-control spending…LOL. But you’re right, we could be spending on worse things.

  19. That’s such a great idea to count how many books you get. I need to start doing that, especially with Instafreebies and Amazon free books. I know I’ll never get to them all, but it’s so hard to pass them up when they’re free. Maybe I’ll start counting how many review copies I get too and set a limit for myself for each month.

    We’re not still in the triple digits like you are, but our leaves aren’t showing many signs of changing yet. Either way, I’m not in a big hurry for Fall to come. I love the scenery, but I don’t like the fluctuating temperatures. If it’s going to be cold, that’s okay, if it would stay that way and not be 50 one day and 75 the next day. And it seems we don’t get to enjoy much of Fall because it rains so much. But I’m glad you are enjoying the change of seasons.

    1. Thanks, Jennifer, although I don’t count the freebies. I list them on my Sunday post, but they don’t go on my pages because I don’t feel “obligated” to read them. However, I only occasionally accept one of the Kindle First books…and the random freebies no longer go on my shelves.

      Too many books purchased and received for review…it is overwhelming!

    I love fall too. The yummy food and less humidity. I just wish I could skip winter. LOL I don’t do cold very well. I wasn’t on the internet as much this week. Probably why I didn’t buy any books for a change. My book budget just rolled over though. Look out! LOL

      The last Diana special I saw had so much repetition of the previous ones that it no longer grabbed me. It is sad, of course, and I’ll never forget that Sunday morning twenty years ago, and going to get the paper down the road (I was living in the foothills); seeing those unbelievable headlines put a darkness on the day.

      I am enjoying Z. I had already seen the Amazon Prime series based on the book, so it feels familiar so far. I am also reading an e-book (The Truth We Bury), as I sometimes read more than one book if one is fictional nonfiction (or just plain nonfiction).

      As much as I would love cooler weather, I know that our hot summers lead to mild winters, for which I am grateful.

      I did go a little crazy on the book buying this month, after congratulating myself for the lower numbers in May, June, and July.

    Something about September makes it feel like fall…even when it is still warm outside. Cooler weather is definitely on the way. I tend to go a little crazy in terms of book buying if I have done good at resisting for a while. I must want a large tbr pile at all times or something. Enjoy all of your new books!

    It’s hard to believe it was the death anniversary for Princess Diana. I still remember that day and the media coverage, focused on that tunnel and hoping it wasn’t true. It’s amazing how many people she touched. I can’t believe it is September already and can’t wait for the cooler weather and the Fall treats. That’s a lot of new books and I have some I want to purchase. There are so many good books out now it is hard to resist lol. I hope you enjoy your new books and have a great week!

    1. Thanks, Kathy, I remember the first fall after I moved to Sacramento years ago…the apples, the train rides into apple country…so I will always think of my favorite fall seasons there.

      Living here, south of Sacramento, we have heat for too long, and I don’t have the same memories of fall. But I still love fall.

  42. Wow to your temps and all your reading/blogging activity! Here in Mass. we never hit triple digits even during our longest heat wave this summer, I’m pretty sure. I’ve been reading but not blogging! And not enough reading, either. Hoping to curb my Facebook habit somewhat and get back to blogging this fall. My Labor Day resolutions!
    We had frozen drinks on Labor Day evening to persuade ourselves that summer isn’t really over yet. Not in a hurry for fall, really, but I love late summer/early fall weather!
