HUMP DAY SERENDIPITY: LUXURIATING IN BOOKS….

Today I’m participating in Sam’s WWW Wednesdays Here’s how it works:

The Three Ws are:

What are you currently reading?
What did you recently finish reading?
What do you think you’ll read next, and/or what are you eagerly awaiting?

***

CURRENTLY READING:

As I gaze at the stacks of upcoming reads on my office trunk, or scroll through the titles hanging out on Pippa, my Kindle, it is sometimes challenging to pick that next read.

But today I started reading The Vanishing Year, by Kate Moretti, a “dark, twisty, edge-of-your-seat suspense” (Karen Robards); it combines the classic sophistication of Ruth Rendell and A.S.A. Harrison with the thoroughly modern flair of Jessica Knoll.

Zoe Whittaker is living a charmed life. She is the beautiful young wife to handsome, charming Wall Street tycoon Henry Whittaker. She is a member of Manhattan’s social elite. She is on the board of one of the city’s most prestigious philanthropic organizations. She has a perfect Tribeca penthouse in the city and a gorgeous lake house in the country. The finest wine, the most up-to-date fashion, and the most luxurious vacations are all at her fingertips.

What no one knows is that five years ago, Zoe’s life was in danger. Back then, Zoe wasn’t Zoe at all. Now her secrets are coming back to haunt her.

As the past and present collide, Zoe must decide who she can trust before she—whoever she is—vanishes completely.

I think I will be glued to those pages!

JUST FINISHED:

My Husband’s Wife, by Jane Corry (click title for my review).

A riveting and convoluted page turner that would finally bring a bit of clarity to this reader, while reminding us that we do not really know the people we love. 5 stars.

EAGERLY ANTICIPATING:

I am looking forward to several upcoming reads, but today I got two review books that I am excited about, so one of them will be on my reading list soon.  Let’s take a look at the most likely candidate for “up soon.”

How Will I Know You?, by Jessica Treadway, came from Amazon Vine.

Fans of Reconstructing Amelia will love this pulse-pounding novel of mystery, betrayal, and a small town’s dark secrets. On a cold December day, the body of high school senior Joy Enright is discovered in the woods at the edge of a frozen pond. Her death looks like a tragic drowning accident at first, but an autopsy reveals something sinister — the teenager’s body shows unmistakable signs of strangulation. The discovery upends an otherwise uneventful small town, as police grapple with a rare homicide case and those closest to Joy wonder how she could have been taken from them — and by whom. Susanne, Joy’s mother, tries to reconcile past betrayals with their wrenching consequences. Martin, an African-American graduate student, faces ostracism when blame is cast on him. Tom, a rescue diver and son-in-law of the town’s police chief, doubts both the police’s methods and his own perceptions. And Harper, Joy’s best friend, tries to figure out why she disappeared from Harper’s life months before she actually went missing.

In a close-knit community where everyone knows someone else’s secret, it’s only a matter of time before the truth is exposed. In this gripping novel, author Jessica Treadway explore the ways in which families both thrive and falter, and how seemingly small bad choices can escalate – with fatal consequences.

  1. I read THE VANISHING YEAR and it was good. And I have HOW WILL I KNOW YOU – maybe on audio – can’t remember. Look forward to it. Some good stuff coming out these days. Wonder how long the psychological thriller theme will continue?

    1. Good to know, Kay; The Vanishing Year started out with beautiful scenes, but I knew that amidst all of that glamour, something horrible would soon happen. Love the bad that hovers over everything.

I hope we both enjoy How Will I Know You, and thanks for stopping by.

    1. I’m loving it so far, Faith….and would have read more last night, but it was Tuesday, so This Is Us was on…and a couple of other shows I like (The Fosters, Switched at Birth). TV and Netflix compete with my reading. Thanks for visiting.

So glad to see that you enjoyed My Husband’s Wife! I had the opportunity to get a review copy of it but I ended up turning it down just because I feel like I already have a lot of ARCs to try to get through and not enough time, haha. It’s definitely one that I plan on reading at some point though.
