WEEKLY UPDATES: BOO!!

picmonkey-image-logo-on-sept-17

Good morning! Today’s post will link up to The Sunday Salon, The Sunday Post and Stacking the Shelves, for weekly updates.

**Mailbox Monday is hosted at the home site: Mailbox Monday.

And let’s join Kathryn, our leader in It’s Monday! What Are You Reading?, at Book Date.

Nice, cooler weather this week:  even some rain on Friday.  I’m feeling cozy, and strangely enough, I went to sleep early last night…and didn’t wake up until morning!  No Netflix viewing…at all.  But today, I got the announcement that Season 3 of The Fall is now available.  Yay!

It was my birthday week,  so there were some lovely lazing-about days, and a day with my granddaughter Fiona yesterday.  We had lunch at the neighborhood bistro (Dai Bai Dang) and saw The Girl on the Train.  Yes, I’d already seen it, but it was fun seeing it again…and watching Fiona’s reactions.

One of my birthday gifts was an Amazon gift card.  Someone knows me well!  I haven’t spent the whole thing yet, but I’m working on it.

Lazy reading, too, as I only finished reading and reviewing two books.  I’m loving the third one I’m working on, though; and my grand total so far for Read the Books You Buy –76.  I loved reading in bed last night.

Let’s grab something caffeinated and talk about the week. Happy Halloween!

  1. Cooler weather and rain, I could use bother. Our entire state is under a no burn warning because the lack of rain, and it still doesn’t feel like fall here, although we had a couple of days where it seemed that it might be coming.
I recently added In the Woods to my TBR. I don’t know why, but I just now discovered that it is a part of a series. I have seen several of the books, but never placed them together. Anyway, I hope to read that one soon too.

    1. Thanks, Toady, and the more I keep seeing the newer books in the Dublin Murders series, I realize that I must read this one first!

We haven’t had as much rain as we need to overcome the fire risks…so any rain feels like a healing presence. Even though it sometimes causes problems with flooding, etc.

Hope we both enjoy In the Woods….and thanks for visiting.

Happy birthday! Glad you had a great week. I want to see Girl on the Train (maybe this weekend?) and I always like Emily Blunt so I have high hopes. I also saw a trailer for HBO’s Big Little Lies and am now looking forward! That restaurant looks great.

I’ve been wanting to read Sarah Jio’s Goodnight June but haven’t gotten to it yet, and same for Tana French’s In Wood. I heard that was good! And Hot Milk looks good- love that cover!

Hope you enjoy your week and weekend. Happy reading! 🙂

    1. Thanks, Greg, I am also excited that Big Little Lies will be on HBO…(and I’m so glad I didn’t discontinue that service!).

Emily Blunt has the “sad, depressed girl” down pat, in The Girl on the Train.

I hope that I can engage with In the Woods, as I’ve read that it’s slow-going, which worries me…it is around 600 pages!

Right now I’m alternating between Saturday Requiem, which I’m loving…and The Fall, on Netflix. Enjoy your week!

  3. Tana French has been on my TBR for far too long as well so I can’t wait to see what you think of her. I’m also curious about the Sarah Jio book. I loved Goodnight June and really want to read more from her. An Amazon gift card is definitely the perfect gift! I always hold on to them for ages to make sure I make the right decision. Have a great week!

    1. I hope I can get through In the Woods, since it’s so long…and I’ve heard it is slow-going.

Sadly (or maybe not), I have already spent the gift card! I am terrible at holding onto money or gift cards….but everything I got was something I wanted.

Enjoy your week, and thanks for visiting, Katherine.

  4. Happy belated birthday!!! Some great books there this week Laurel and it sounds as if the weather’s been quite pleasant. It rained heavily here last Sunday and was cold, but today’s the complete opposite. I should be happier about the sun and warm weather, but the cold and rain gave me a good reason to stay inside and read and write!

    1. We had been in the 80s and 90s for the longest time, and finally dropped into the 70s…and even the upper 60s!

Thanks for visiting, Laura, and as you read this, I’ve gone on to spend the rest of my gift card! I’ll be sharing those books after they arrive. I ordered some hardcovers!

    1. Thanks, Laura, and as for Netflix, it was challenging. But I was in between seasons on older series…and barely into new ones. Then I made up for it yesterday by watching the complete Season 3 of The Fall, which had just arrived.

Yes, that cover of In the Woods drew me in. Now let’s hope I engage with the book!

      Thanks for visiting.

    1. Thanks, Trish, and I loved The Girl on the Train movie enough to see it twice! I probably won’t read the book again, although I did enjoy it. It’s easier to rewatch movies than read books.

I hope to enjoy the Tana French book…as the rest of the series is drawing my eye. Thanks for visiting!

    1. Thanks, Emma, I love having lazy days, and I must admit that most of my mornings are spent that way, blogging, etc., before I even dress for the day. It’s blissful, after years of hopping out of bed at 5 a.m. to get to work 20 miles away!

Enjoy your week, and I hope you also have some good reading.

    1. Thanks, Maureen, it was a lovely week of doing whatever I wanted…lol.

I also like the cover of In Twenty Years, and enjoy the author. It has been a while since I bought it, but not as long as In the Woods, purchased in 2014.

I really need to try not to buy more books than I can read. lol

      Enjoy your week!

  5. Happy belated birthday to you! I feel like mine has come and gone though it’s really the day after Halloween, lol! Sounds like you had a nice dinner and movie date with Fiona… and book gift cards? Yes, please!

I am pending request for Always– I haven’t read all Jio’s books but love her style. And I want to read In Twenty Years for a comfort read, and Nicci French for a thrill– I only read the Monday and Tuesday installments of this series so far. I’ve read all but one Tana French and recommend her if you enjoy Irish procedurals/suspense, and I don’t always read Sandra Brown but I read Mean Streak and that was a good read for me.

Enjoy your week, and let’s be happy about this weather system lurking over us for the last couple of weeks– not much rain, mostly gloom, but I’ll take what we get!

    1. I do love Irish procedurals and have watched some on Netflix (Happy Valley, The Fall).

The Nicci French books are books I love because of Frieda Klein. She loves her cozy home, but is always finding herself in a pickle and unable to get home sometimes. She takes risks, but I love how she explains them so they make sense.

I hope to find In Twenty Years a comfort, as I need one!

Thanks for the birthday wishes, and enjoy yours…you are November 1, then? You are still a Scorpio, though. My eldest son is November 17, but he was due on November 2, and I was having contractions on Halloween! My second son’s birthday was October 5, but he was due mid-September.

      Have a great week!

    1. Yes, the spending is definitely something to ponder, but it didn’t take me long. What does that say about my impulse control? lol

I did get hardcover versions of books I know I’ll want to keep.

Thanks for visiting, Kimberly, and I hope to enjoy In the Woods. I’m loving Saturday Requiem.

Happy Birthday! It sounds like you had a nice celebration with great weather. It was cooler here in Sacramento and it also rained on Friday. It’s good to finally get more rain. I still haven’t seen The Girl On The Train yet. I thought the book was ok so I’ll wait till it goes on Netflix. I hope you have a great week and enjoy your books.

    1. Thanks for the birthday wishes, Kathy, and I’m loving the slightly cooler weather, while hoping for it to cool down more.

I miss Sacramento. I dreamed about it again last night…lol. Of living there, enjoying my kids when they were younger.

Sign of old age? Ha. Maybe.

I probably won’t see TGOTT movie again until it’s on Netflix. lol.

      Thanks for visiting!

  7. Happy Birthday! Spending the day with your granddaughter sounds like a wonderful way to celebrate. And hooray for cooler temperatures and rain, too. We had snow three days this week, but thankfully it didn’t stick around. I really liked In the Woods and can’t wait to hear what you think about Hot Milk… the reviews seem to be all over the place. Hope it’s another good week for you 🙂

Meanwhile, I’m loving Netflix. Finished Season 3 of The Fall.

  8. So many great choices. I have been meaning to read Nicci French Blue Monday and it is already on Saturday, oh my word, where did that time go, honestly I would have said that was only 3 years ago. I haven’t read Sandra Brown in over 20 years, hmmm

    1. Blue Monday did seem to be just a little while ago; I have every one of the books in the series…so far. I wonder if we will have a Sunday book.

Thanks for visiting, Marce, and I don’t read as much Sandra Brown as I once did. So the books are a treat.

Happy birthday! I am hoping to fit some books I bought into my December calendar. I have so many review books to read that it is hard fitting in any other books. I keep saying that I’m stocking up for retirement. Happy reading!

  10. I do hope you had a lovely birthday – belated wishes to you! Sounds like the weather has been kind to you. Ours is very up and down. There are a few of your books this week that catch my eye. Hot Milk looks good. I have wanted to read Tana French for awhile now, that cover sure does look spooky! I have read a couple of Sarah Jio but have to admit they did set the world on fire for me anyway. I hope her new one if enjoyable. Thanks for sharing your book pursuits this week and for stopping by my blog earlier too.

  11. The Cue Card

Hi Laurel, what is the TV series The Fall about? I might look for it. We stopped watching Bloodline after Season 1. You were right by Season 2 we sort of didn’t like any of the characters! But Season 1 was pretty good. I wouldn’t mind reading Tana French’s book In the Woods. I never have read that one. BTW, happy belated birthday!!! Sounds like a great week.

    1. The Fall is set in Ireland, and it’s a police procedural about a team hunting a serial killer. We know early on who the killer is, but watching the cops try to catch him and have enough evidence…that’s what makes it interesting. Gillian Anderson plays the lead cop, and she is cool and detached, almost perfect looking. But she has flaws.

      Thanks for visiting, Susan. Enjoy!
