Today I’m participating in Sam’s WWW Wednesdays Here’s how it works:

The Three Ws are:

What are you currently reading?
What did you recently finish reading?
What do you think you’ll read next, and/or what are you eagerly awaiting?

Currently Reading:

I’m enjoying a book that has been on my stacks for a little while…since June.  Confess, by Colleen Hoover, a new novel about risking everything for love—and finding your heart somewhere between the truth and lies.

At age twenty-one, Auburn Reed has already lost everything important to her. In her fight to rebuild her shattered life, she has her goals in sight and there is no room for mistakes. But when she walks into a Dallas art studio in search of a job, she doesn’t expect to find a deep attraction to the enigmatic artist who works there, Owen Gentry.

For once, Auburn takes a chance and puts her heart in control, only to discover that Owen is keeping a major secret from coming out. The magnitude of his past threatens to destroy everything important to Auburn, and the only way to get her life back on track is to cut Owen out of it.

To save their relationship, all Owen needs to do is confess. But in this case, the confession could be much more destructive than the actual sin.

This will be my fourth book from this author.  I am enjoying it so far.

JUST FINISHED:

Today I finished a fabulous book that I will be thinking about for a while.  Commonwealth, by Ann Patchett (click for my review), is a fascinating story of dysfunctional families that carries the reader from the 1960s to the present. We don’t follow the characters in a linear style, but move back and forth. Sometimes we are swept backward by a character’s memory that takes us there. And sometimes we are catapulted back by events.

ANTICIPATION:

So many lovely books are on the horizon.    Lisa Gardner is one of my favorite writer of thrillers.  Right Behind You is coming in January…so I’ve bookmarked it on Amazon.

Synopsis:  Is he a hero?

Eight years ago, Sharlah May Nash’s older brother beat their drunken father to death with a baseball bat in order to save both of their lives. Now thirteen years old, Sharlah has finally moved on. About to be adopted by retired FBI profiler Pierce Quincy and his partner, Rainie Conner, Sharlah loves one thing best about her new family: They are all experts on monsters.

Is he a killer?

Then the call comes in. A double murder at a local gas station, followed by reports of an armed suspect shooting his way through the wilds of Oregon. As Quincy and Rainie race to assist, they are forced to confront mounting evidence: The shooter may very well be Sharlah’s older brother, Telly Ray Nash, and it appears his killing spree has only just begun.

All she knows for sure: He’s back.

As the clock winds down on a massive hunt for Telly, Quincy and Rainie must answer two critical questions: Why after eight years has this young man started killing again? And what does this mean for Sharlah? Once upon a time, Sharlah’s big brother saved her life. Now, she has two questions of her own: Is her brother a hero or a killer? And how much will it cost her new family before they learn the final, shattering truth? Because as Sharlah knows all too well, the biggest danger is the one standing right behind you.

  1. I haven’t read anything by Colleen Hoover, but I’ve heard great things about her books. I hope you enjoy it!
I’ve only read one book by Ann Patchett (State of Wonder) but it left me with mixed feelings. Commonwealth sounds like a great book though.
    Happy Reading 🙂

    1. I haven’t read State of Wonder….but Commonwealth was definitely one I loved. It started out kind of slow for me, and all the back and forth was confusing at first…until I got into it and went with the flow.

Thanks for visiting, Clare, and enjoy!

  2. I really need to read some Colleen Hoover. I keep seeing her books everywhere, and they sound like something I would enjoy. I only recently heard of Ann Patchett as well and added another of her books to my TBR – I think it was called Bel Canto? But I might have to add Commonwealth as well.

Thanks for visiting my WWW post and happy reading! 🙂

    1. I thought I had read more Patchett books than I have…I’ve only read Run…and now Commonwealth. There is a book called The Patron Saint of Liars that I saw as a Lifetime movie. So I thought I’d read the book. lol.

I enjoy Hoover, now that I’ve read four of her books, I have a feeling of “fandom.” Thanks for visiting, Emily…enjoy!

    1. I love Lisa Gardner (and Lisa Unger) and a couple of other Lisas, too. (Scottoline, et. al.). Sometimes I get them mixed up (Gardner and Unger), as they both write thrillers.

If you are searching for a first book to read by CH, I recommend It Ends with Us. It is my favorite so far.

Thanks for stopping by, Katherine, and enjoy!

    1. I just finished reading (and reviewing) Confess. Wow! While parts of it were kind of slow, the tension escalated toward the end, and I couldn’t stop reading! Hence my posting at 1:12 a.m. (Had to write and post my review, and then check emails.). Thanks for visiting, Diana.
