Today I’m participating in Sam’s WWW Wednesdays. Here’s how it works:
The Three Ws are:
What are you currently reading?
What did you recently finish reading?
What do you think you’ll read next, and/or what are you eagerly awaiting?
***
Currently Reading:
Family Tree, by Susan Wiggs, is a wonderfully engaging book about family, love, loss, and the pain of the past…and the promise of a future.
I am at a place in my reading life that offers the opportunity to choose what to read next based on my whimsical moods. I don’t have a lot of review books pressing in on me, now that I’ve finished the immediate ones on the stack. So sometimes I play a little game, sort of like “eenie, meenie, miney, mo,” and choose what’s next.
This book was one I recently saw reviewed, and I was reminded of how much I had wanted to read it. So that helped me choose. I have not been disappointed. It is not a thriller, but the kind of book that I think of as a “palate cleanser.” Something to help me relax the intensity of my reading.
***
JUST FINISHED:
These two books, review books, were finished very quickly. They were suspenseful and engaging reads, so the pages seemed to turn themselves.
Fractured, by Catherine McKenzie, (click for my review), “A suspenseful tale that kept me glued to the pages until the very end, the story also generated all the emotions you might experience if these events were happening to people you know. When the final reveal was brought forth, I knew that none of the characters would be the same again. And neither would the readers of this book. 5 stars.”
***
Faithful, by Alice Hoffman, (click for my review), was wonderfully engaging; it was not suspenseful in the fashion of a thriller, but there were events that felt mysterious, even magical. I could not stop reading it!
***
EAGERLY ANTICIPATING:
I have been a fan of Karen White since my early blogging days, and the first books that I read of hers were the Tradd Street books. A new one in the series is coming on January 10, 2017. The Guests on South Battery is another book that invites you to explore the brick-walked streets of Charleston, where historic mansions house the memories of years gone by, and restless spirits refuse to fade away…
***
Synopsis: With her extended maternity leave at its end, Melanie Trenholm is less than thrilled to leave her new husband and beautiful twins to return to work, especially when she’s awoken by a phone call with no voice on the other end—and the uneasy feeling that the ghostly apparitions that have stayed silent for more than a year are about to invade her life once more.
But her return to the realty office goes better than she could have hoped, with a new client eager to sell the home she recently inherited on South Battery. Most would treasure living in one of the grandest old homes in the famous historic district of Charleston, but Jayne Smith would rather sell hers as soon as possible, guaranteeing Melanie a quick commission.
Despite her stroke of luck, Melanie can’t deny that spirits—both malevolent and benign—have started to show themselves to her again. One is shrouded from sight, but appears whenever Jayne is near. Another arrives when an old cistern is discovered in Melanie’s backyard on Tradd Street.
Melanie knows nothing good can come from unearthing the past. But some secrets refuse to stay buried….

What does your reading world look like this week?

Glad to see that you enjoyed Fractured. I did too. You are lucky to have gotten through the reviews pressure. I keep planning on doing that but I can’t stop requesting books. I have 15 on my shelf now. I will try read all before requesting more. Happy reading. Enjoy your books this week.

Oh, I loved it! But as for review books, the only way I can avoid requesting books is to stay away from the sites…lol. That works sometimes. Thanks for stopping by, and I hope you enjoy the books ahead of you, Diana.

I read all the books in the Tradd Street series a while back…except the first one (The Girl on Legare Street). I need to go back and catch that one.
These books were my first exposure to Karen White, and I became a fan.
Thanks for stopping by, Katherine, and I love Susan Wiggs, too.

I really love the cover for Faithful, as well as the sound of it – I’ve seen it on NetGalley a lot, but I think it was one that is not available in my region, so I’ll have to hope the library gets it. Glad to hear it was so engaging.
