Welcome to another Weekly Updates post.  After a few cooler days, it will jump to the 90s today, and 80s on Sunday.  I guess we have to accept these ups and downs.

I didn’t watch much Netflix this week, but I did start Shameless…first episode.  I’m also enjoying the Fall TV line-up, and eagerly anticipating that tomorrow night brings the first episode of Divorce, with Sarah Jessica Parker.

I read and reviewed FOUR books this week, all of them so different from one another, bringing my total for the Read the Books You Buy Challenge to 68.

Today I plan to see the movie The Girl on the Train.

    It’s starting to really cool down here now, at least in the evenings/ mornings. I went to a football game last night (it was Homecoming) and we froze! Ha ha fall is definitely here. Still it got in the 70’s during the day last week… I hope you cool down soon.

    And I hope Girl on the Train is good! I want to see it too. Glad it’s finally out. Can’t wait to hear what you think. I’ve been watching more Netflix, watched Luke Cage this week. It was okay.

    The Elephant bar looks yummy. 🙂

    1. I LOVED The Girl on the Train…it was so intense that I couldn’t stop watching! I think I liked it even more than the book…and I really enjoyed the book.

      I remember freezing at football games….there’s nothing like it.

    1. It’s been a while since I read the book, so the movie brought surprises around several corners for me. I loved it; thought the actors were great and the story clipped along almost like the train on the tracks. I hope you enjoy it, Katherine, and thanks for visiting.

  3. Oh, a few books I like the look of there Laurel – Almost Missed, Evelyn After and Commonwealth in particular. I’ve heard some good reports about the latter.

      Loved the movie…and since I read the book in February 2015, some of the details I had forgotten…but it worked out fine. That fact allowed me to be surprised by the various twists and turns.

  5. Oh man, I haven’t been to Elephant Bar for years. Used to go a lot with the crew. I can finally chillax. Tween birthday party done – check and a great success. My line threat has been, “Got poop cupcakes?”

    1. I LOVED the movie…and I already read a post from someone who didn’t love it, but was disappointed. She had just read the book. I read the book a while ago, so maybe that explains it. Or…some people don’t like books-into-movies as much as I do. lol.

      I thought Shameless was too much to take in large doses, so I will probably not binge-watch.

    1. I am LOVING Fractured, and I signed up for a deal with the author to get a free copy of The Murder Game (Catherine writing as Julie Apple). Doesn’t that sound fun?

      I guess I loved The Girl on the Train movie more than you did…sorry you were disappointed. I was clutching my seat and glued to the screen. I had read the book a while ago, so maybe that’s why everything felt like a surprise to me. lol.

  8. I’m reading Commonwealth right now. It reads like such a great novel after I suffered through a hundred and fifty pages of nothing with the latest Jonathan Safron Foer novel. Commonwealth has characters and they seem real, and it has a plot and it meanders along in a way that feels real, too.

    Hope you enjoy it. Let’s keep our fingers crossed for cool weather, me and you.

    1. Oh, I’m loving This Is Us, too, although it took me a couple of episodes to realize what they were doing with those “triplets.” lol. I love the actor who portrays the adult Kevin.

      I haven’t tried Designated Survivor…I already have too many shows on my schedule!

      Generally, if I love a show, that’s the one that gets canceled. lol

  12. Hope you enjoy Girl on a Train. I wanted to see it with my bf, but he seems to think movies like that and Gone Girl are “chick flicks” despite being a librarian and actually being around these books.

    1. Oh, I hate when guys label shows that feature women in that disparaging way….my sons do the same. Except my eldest, who will see these shows because he loves film and TV.

      But…I did love The Girl on the Train, although another blogger I read was disappointed. I guess it can go either way. But I tend to love movies, even those others don’t give high ratings.

  13. I hope you enjoy ‘Girl on a Train’ and that the weather isn’t too hot. We are now properly into autumn weather, although it is mild and sunny by day, the nights are getting very chilly and we need the heating on:(. I’ve recalled just MUCH I loathe the cold… Fractured looks good and and I’m very impressed that you have managed to read 68 of the books you’ve bought. My total this year is pathetic, as I’ve been concentrating on Netgalley reads – there needs to be a bit more of a balance, I think… Have a great week, Laurel.

    1. I loved it Sarah, and I would see it again. I’ll probably watch it when it comes to Amazon Prime Videos, which I’m sure it will….

      Our temps are supposed to go to 91 today, but back in the 80s for the next two days. Sigh.

      Some of those books I read (that I bought) are for the last half of 2015, too, which count for the challenge. But I still have lots to read that I’ve bought this year…and last.

      I’m trying to keep my NetGalley requests down…and spread out the release dates, but yes, it’s hard.

  14. Which version of Shameless are you reading? I finished up all of the episodes on Netflix of the U.S. version not too long ago.

    Wow! You have bought and read 68 books? I’m assuming a lot of them were books you owned before.

    The Girl on the Train! I haven’t read the book but I kind of just want to see the movie first because it look so interesting and like I’ll be on the edge of my seat. Enjoy your day and week!

    1. I’m watching the Shameless that was on Showtime, I think, and which is now on Netflix. I guess it’s the US version.

      The 68 books include some I bought in the second half of 2015, as allowed in the challenge. I still have a ways to go to finish reading all the books I’ve purchased…sigh.

  23. Oooh, I see another Frieda Klein book is out. I like this series but I’m a few books behind.

    I was supposed to see Girl on a Train today, but a nasty cough kept me home. Hope it was as good as the book!

    1. It’s supposed to be in the 80s today and tomorrow here, and then down to the 70s. I wish it would stay down, instead of going up again after every couple of cooler days. At least it’s not in the 100s!

    I hope you love Commonwealth and I’m going to check out your review of All the Ugly and Wonderful Things since I just finished that one. And – I’d love to hear your thoughts on The Girl on the Train movie – I wrote a post (https://www.sarahsbookshelves.com/girl-train-movie-will-settle-conspiracy-theory-spoilers-alert/) wondering how the movie would handle a specific aspect of the book before it came out. But I still haven’t seen the movie.

    1. I agree about differences in my reading, too.

      I read TGOTT when it first came out…so it’s been a while. But I was immediately immersed in the story as the movie filled the screen. I could completely follow the plot, and the actors who portrayed the characters were excellent, especially Emily Blunt and Justin Theroux. Hope you enjoy it, Jade.

  37. I am looking forward to Girl on the Train movie. The book really showed me an attitude that I needed to change. I love it when a book not only entertains but changes. I liked Shameless when we had the channel and now can catch up on Netflix! I love your foot and drink shots, yummy!

    I would love to read Commonweath, I puchased a copy last week as I had seen so many positive reports. I also would like to read the new Alice Hoffman book, though I don’t think it has been released in Australia yet.
