WEEKLY UPDATES: BOOKS, MOVIES, & SUMMER TREATS

picmonkey-image-august-framedst-25-update

Good morning! Today’s post will link up to The Sunday Salon, The Sunday Post and Stacking the Shelves, for weekly updates.

**Mailbox Monday is hosted at the home site: Mailbox Monday.

And let’s join Kathryn, our leader in It’s Monday! What Are You Reading?, at Book Date.

After a cooler week, it got hot again, but today will be “down” to 97.  Yes, a “cooling trend.”  But the nights are cooler, and soon the heat will be in the past.

Labor Day was a quiet one, with books and movies, with one memorable Amazon Video that I loved:  The Meddler, with Susan Sarandon and Rose Byrne.  A story of a mother who is overly involved in her daughter’s life makes for some fun moments.

Then came a grueling Tuesday, with more dental work.  But it’s done, now, so I can focus on forgetting it…lol.

My total in the Read the Books You Buy Challenge has now reached 60!  This week, I read and reviewed three books, and I’m now on Books Four and Five, which I don’t expect to finish today.

I finally finished the four seasons of Longmire, and I’m eagerly awaiting Season 5, coming September 23.

I’ve been playing around with new blog headers, as Bloggiesta is on the horizon:  September 15.

Let’s grab something caffeinated and talk about the week.

“Down to 97”. Yikes I’d melt lol. We’re at 70 today and the humidity is finally gone- I love this weather. Wish it could be like this all summer. 🙂 Glad you had a nice Labor Day. Ours was quiet too. I’ve watched the first episode of Longmire but that’s it- I was sampling shows a while back. 🙂 It definitely had promise.

Watching Edie has quite the cover- I like that one. and Girl on the Run looks good. I gotta go read your son’s blog post- that looks fun. 🙂

    1. Oh, I long for 70! Our coolest days have been in the 80s, dipping to the 60s at night. Once upon a time, I lived in San Francisco, and I loved the cooler weather, even the foggy days. I think I am supposed to be in a place like that, so why am I still here? lol.

I just found a new show on Netflix, one that I hadn’t heard anything about, but it’s Australian, so I know I’ll love it. I enjoyed the first episode. The show is called Offspring. It should do nicely until Season 5 of Longmire arrives.

Thanks for visiting, Greg, and enjoy your week.

  2. I love the sound of Untethered. Well, the title… must check out the book. Am keen to see what you thought of It Ends With Us too by the way Laurel.

Bizarrely our winter made a bit of a return this week as well, though the sun’s out today and rain has gone.

    1. I read another book by the author of Untethered, which is why I decided to go for it.

I LOVED It Ends with Us…hope you do, too, Deborah.

I just started watching an Australian show on Netflix today…called Offspring. It’s about a quirky family, and one of the family members is an obstetrician.

Enjoy your week, and winter sounds good right now, with our heat still hanging in there.

  3. Every time I sit at our new, dining area table, I am reminded of how lucky I am to be loved and remembered on my recent birthday. I always laugh when a book blogger mentions she needs to read the books in her bookcase. That’s like we knitters who have loads of skeins of yarn. Yet of course, we buy more and more.

    1. A new dining table can bring such a good feeling, since your family can sit around it and add to the joy. Happy belated birthday, and thanks for visiting, Stefanie. Most of my unread books are on my Kindle, but there are a few on a shelf in my office.

    1. I know, I have to laugh when the weather men refer to the 90s as a “cooling trend.” Even tonight, it was 85 for a long time. Usually we get some relief at night.

Thanks for stopping by, Kimberly, and I love the sound of Exhume. Enjoy your week.

We’re in the low 90s this week. The weatherman said it was less humid, but I think it was just wishful thinking. LOL I binged The Blacklist on Netflix. The ending made me so mad. Left me hanging big time and now I have to wait for more. But, The Walking Dead and Survivor are coming soon and that will keep me busy.

    1. Yes, Netflix has a talent for bringing in something new to keep us addicted…to something. lol.

I watched Blacklist a little on network TV, but didn’t quite get into it. Maybe bingeing it would be better. Thanks for stopping by, Laura, and fingers crossed: cooler weather ahead! Enjoy the week.

    1. So far, I’m enjoying the Schine book. I don’t often read two books at once, but the Schine book and Girl on the Run are different enough that it’s working. When I go out, I bring Pippa along, and read the Schine book. At home, it’s the print book. Thanks for visiting, Mary, and have a great week.

  5. I got Exhume as my Prime freebie too. Now I just need time to read it. There were a couple of Prime books I wanted this month. It was hard to choose. I should really do the Read the Book You Buy Challenge.

Hope you have a great week!

  6. Oooh, I’m another one who got Exhume as well although it took me ages to choose as I really wanted two of the titles this month! I have Watching Edie on my TBR pile so looking forward to hearing what you think of it!

It’s down in the low 70’s here in the UK so I think summer is nearly over here but I could do with a bit more sun! Happy reading 🙂

  7. Ooh, Barbara Pym and Cathleen Schine! I enjoyed both of those books… hope you do, too. We’re finally cooler here, but I think ‘cooler’ means something different to me. Our overnight low was around 50 last night. The Meddler sounds like a good movie. Adding to my Netflix list. Hope you have a good week 🙂

    1. Ooh, 50 sounds wonderful! In early August, I enjoyed 50-60 temperatures when I went to the beach. I have never read Barbara Pym, so I’m eager to see what she’s like. Thanks for visiting, JoAnn, and enjoy your week, too.

  8. It was so dark when I left for work this morning. I’m not used to that yet. I am glad your dental work is behind you. I imagine that has got to be a big relief. And 60 books for your challenge! Way to go! That really is awesome considering they are all books you bought.

It will be a busy week for me this week, but I hope to get some reading and blogging in. Fingers crossed. Have a great week, Laurel-Rain!

  9. I’m not much of a TV watcher, but I’ve seen a few episodes of The Offspring from the first series. Series 6 has just been shown here in Australia so you have lots to viewing ahead. Enjoy the rest of your week!

    1. Thanks, Yvonne, I got so easily wrapped up in that show on Netflix that I find myself watching a few episodes every day. I am a bit annoyed by some of the characters, though, like Billie and Jimmy. I guess they’re supposed to be funny, but they kind of seem like idiots. lol. Thanks for visiting.

    1. Last night was the first night I didn’t have to turn on the oscillating fan while I sleep. I don’t like using it, as I don’t really like air blowing on me. lol. I am looking forward to Watching Edie. Thanks for visiting, Maureen.
