HUMP DAY READING: PAST, PRESENT, FUTURE….

June 3 office changes 3-WWW LOGO

Today I’m participating in Sam’s WWW Wednesdays.  Here’s how it works:

The Three Ws are:

What are you currently reading?
What did you recently finish reading?
What do you think you’ll read next, and/or what are you eagerly awaiting?

I am reading The Perfect Girl, by Gilly MacMillan, a review book from Amazon Vine.  Loving it so far.

The New York Times bestselling author of What She Knew returns with an electrifying new novel about how the past will always find us…

“Literary suspense at its finest.”—Mary Kubica, New York Times bestselling author of Pretty Baby

“A wonderfully addictive book with virtuoso plotting and characters – for anyone who loved Girl on the Train, it’s a must read.”
— Rosamund Lupton

Seems I’m on the “perfect” theme, as my last book was The Perfect Neighbors, by Sarah Pekkanen (click for my review), an e-ARC from NetGalley, to be released July 5.

What am I eagerly awaiting?  I just discovered Jennifer Weiner’s newest, and I’ve bookmarked it.  It is a memoir, sort of, with a collection of essays on topics relevant to her own personal experiences.  It is Hungry Heart:  Adventures in Life, Love, and Writing.

You know Jennifer Weiner as many things: a bestselling author, a Twitter phenomenon, and “an unlikely feminist enforcer” (The New Yorker). She’s also a mom, a daughter, and a sister; a former rower and current runner; a best friend and a reality TV junkie. Here, in her first foray into nonfiction, she takes the raw stuff of her personal life and spins it into a collection of essays on womanhood as uproariously funny and moving as the best of Tina Fey, Fran Lebowitz, and Nora Ephron.

Jennifer grew up as an outsider in her picturesque Connecticut hometown (“a Lane Bryant outtake in an Abercrombie & Fitch photo shoot”) and at her Ivy League college, but finally found her people in newsrooms in central Pennsylvania and Philadelphia and her voice as a novelist, activist, and New York Times columnist.

No subject is off-limits in this intimate and honest essay collection: sex, weight, envy, money, her mom’s late-in-life lesbianism, and her estranged father’s death. From lonely adolescence to modern childbirth to hearing her six-year-old daughter’s use of the f-word—fat—for the first time, Jennifer dives deep into the heart of female experience, with the wit and candor that have endeared her to readers all over the world.

By turns hilarious and deeply touching, Hungry Heart is about yearning and longing, love and loss, and a woman who searched for her place in the world—and found it as a storyteller.

Coming October 11, 2016.

    1. Oh…well, to me, Hump Day was always midweek, and the day to get over to reach the weekend…

That was when I worked….lol. Nowadays, it’s just Wednesday. Thanks for stopping by, Karen, and I am enjoying my books. And my life in which Hump Day is not a bad day. Just a Wednesday.

    1. Isn’t it funny how the themes seem to show up in accidental ways? Perfect for this serendipitous blog, lol. Thanks for stopping by, Cleo, and I just finished The Perfect Girl last night. Wow!

  1. The Perfect Girl sounds like my kind of book. Dark and intriguing. I hope to get it too. I only know Jennifer Weiner’s Good in bed. It was definitely a fun read. I hope that you will enjoy the memoir. Happy reading.
