IT’S HUMP DAY: WHAT HAVE YOU BEEN READING?

bookish treasures resized-with text& POLAROID

Today I’m participating in Sam’s WWW Wednesdays.  Here’s how it works:

The Three Ws are:

What are you currently reading?
What did you recently finish reading?
What do you think you’ll read next, and/or what are you eagerly awaiting?

***

Currently, I am reading I Let You Go, by Claire Mackintosh.

On a rainy afternoon, a mother’s life is shattered as her son slips from her grip and runs into the street . . .

I Let You Go follows Jenna Gray as she moves to a ramshackle cottage on the remote Welsh coast, trying to escape the memory of the car accident that plays again and again in her mind and desperate to heal from the loss of her child and the rest of her painful past.

At the same time, the novel tracks the pair of Bristol police investigators trying to get to the bottom of this hit-and-run. As they chase down one hopeless lead after another, they find themselves as drawn to each other as they are to the frustrating, twist-filled case before them. Elizabeth Haynes, author of Into the Darkest Corner, says, “I read I Let You Go in two sittings; it made me cry (at least twice), made me gasp out loud (once), and above all made me wish I’d written it . . . a stellar achievement.”

My last read was one I thoroughly enjoyed as well:  Wilde Lake, by Laura Lippman – (click for my review).  A story of how the past informs the future, and how secrets and lies can change everything.

Up next?  I have a couple of possibilities, but I’m thinking I’ll read an e-ARC from NetGalley called The Girls, by Emma Cline; and then I’ll read another one called All the Missing Girls, by Megan Miranda, also an e-ARC.

Here is a book I am eagerly awaiting…an October 4, 2016, release:  Fractured, by Catherine McKenzie.

Julie Prentice and her family move across the country to the idyllic Mount Adams district of Cincinnati, hoping to evade the stalker who’s been terrorizing them ever since the publication of her bestselling novel, The Murder Game. Since Julie doesn’t know anyone in her new town, when she meets her neighbor John Dunbar, their instant connection brings measured hope for a new beginning. But she never imagines that a simple, benign conversation with him could set her life spinning so far off course.

We know where you live…

After a series of misunderstandings, Julie and her family become the target of increasingly unsettling harassment. Has Julie’s stalker found her, or are her neighbors out to get her, too? As tension in the neighborhood rises, new friends turn into enemies, and the results are deadly.

  1. As my son is still very little, I’m currently avoiding all stories like I Let You Go which would probably give me nightmares! I’ve heard good things about it though and I hope you enjoy it.

I have banned myself from requesting anything else from NetGalley for a while. I went a bit mad about a month ago, thinking there was no way all my requests would be approved… and then they were! :/

Thank you for visiting my WWW post earlier (https://clairehuston.wordpress.com/2016/06/08/www-wednesday-8th-june-2016/) and happy reading!

    1. I know what you mean, Claire; stories about missing children and even worse, children struck by cars, are nightmarish….and even though my kids are all grown, I still worry. But I keep telling myself: It’s just a story, it’s just a story. lol.

NetGalley is very tempting, and I’ve fallen into that trap, too. I try to spread out the books around release dates, but even so, I have THREE review books from them for June. I also like to read books I buy, so that creates a dilemma sometimes.

      Thanks for stopping by!

  2. Wilde Lake and I Let You Go sound intriguing! I love discovering new books. Even though my TBR is as long as the sky is endless 😉
Thanks again for dropping by my WWW Wednesday!
Have a great week and Happy Reading 😀

    1. Oh, yes, the endless quest for books that we see on other blogs; books we must have! Even though I am reading a lot of books I bought in the second half of last year, and all of this year, I seem to be adding them faster than I can read them. Thanks for visiting, Faith.

  3. We have had a horrible hit-and-run accident in my area, leaving a three year old dead. After the priest who handled the family’s wishes and did the service put out a blast on social media, the man finally came forward. The other day there was another child hit and killed after he ran into traffic, running from bees. These are just horrible incidents that can never be erased. I can’t imagine what Jenna Gray must express in I Let You Go.

I like the sound of I Let you Go. It has a promising synopsis. I hope that you are enjoying it so far. I have All the Missing Girls on my TBR. It sounds like an interesting thriller. Looking forward to your reviews of these books. Happy reading.
