Good morning, Bloggers!  Grab some coffee (or a mimosa), and let’s talk about our weeks.

I find myself writing this post much earlier than usual this weekend.  The hours ahead will be full of family time, a get-together that is a celebration of new beginnings.  My youngest son and his wife are moving farther north, and my daughter will be moving into their house here.  We will be lifting our glasses to what lies ahead!

Meanwhile, here’s a quick nod to last week…

With only a few more days left in September, I am feeling the fall…finally.  The temperature has slid down to the eighties and even mid-seventies on occasion.  I pulled some pumpkin and other autumn tidbits from the closets.  I am ready!

  1. I like your Autumn decorations, very nice, and thankfully we have cooled down a bit this weekend– hope it sticks around. I never heard of that Joyce Carol Oates collection but sounds sinister, and Crooked River and the Gillespies look like you will be doing some enjoyable reading this week. Have fun!

    1. The dip into the seventies was a brief moment…although it is supposed to be around 78 today, tomorrow and Tuesday will be in the 80s…which is fine with me, after weeks and weeks of triple digits.

Thanks for stopping by, Karen, and I don’t like cold and wet either. Picky, huh? LOL

  2. I’m ready for fall now too, it’s such a lovely season and I love going for walks in the slightly frosty air. I hope your family time is fun, it sounds sad that your son and his wife are moving but hopefully it’s not too far away.
Enjoy your books, River Road is pretty eye catching.

    1. Thanks, Trish, and our dinner together last night was poignant…we are excited for their new adventure, but they will now be on the farthest, northern part of the state, about 12 hours away! Not great, as I have lived close to my youngest two kids (?) their whole lives. At least my daughter will still be here.

Let’s not even talk about my eldest, who lives in Berlin!

I am definitely looking forward to the new books….I haven’t read Jayne Ann Krentz in a while.

    1. Thanks, Katherine, and I am eager to dive into the Gillespies book…and River Road at some point. The new purchases are often relegated to the bottom of the queue, sadly…

Until a moment of abandon and I chuck the list!

We had a lovely, poignant dinner last night, and today, there will be many young people to help with the two moves, including two of the older teens.

    1. Thanks, Greg…I am feeling morose that my youngest son and his wife will be TWELVE hours away…which probably seems funny, since my eldest is worlds away in Berlin…LOL.

My younger two have always been close to home, however, and I opted not to move a few years ago so I could stay near them. I should have known they would fly away eventually. But my daughter is still here, for the time being.

We had a lovely dinner and two of the older teens are helping with the moves today (18 and 19).

I am looking forward to the Gillespies book. Enjoy your week!

    1. I am looking forward to Leaves…it sounds appropriate for fall….and change is definitely part of life, but sometimes it leaves a wrenching feeling behind. I am looking forward to lots of trips to their new home, even though it’s farther away. Thanks for stopping by, Laura….

    1. I feel that lump in my throat…I have one son who lives VERY far away in Berlin, and I’m sort of used to it….but this youngest son has always been close to home. I will try to see the adventure in it, knowing I did the same thing to my parents all those years ago…LOL

Thanks for stopping by, Bea, and yes, I almost forgot about the dragon being in the photo. I have lots of fairytale figurines…and that dragon seems to fit nicely with Halloween stuff.

It’s a shame for you your son is moving further away but I hope their move goes well. I wish your daughter well with her move too. Have a good week. 🙂

    1. I am very happy that my daughter is moving into their vacated home and renting from them; it keeps the lovely house in the family. And they can have their adventure without worrying about strangers renting it. I’m trying to put a positive spin on it all…thanks for stopping by, Jan, and enjoy your week.

    1. Thanks, Catherine…I love fall and the decor that I keep in my closet and bring out every year. I am also looking forward to the new books.

We had a lovely dinner last night, and I hope to spend some time with them today. Thanks for stopping by.

    1. I know that I was happy when they moved out of my house (finally) in adulthood, but I loved having them nearby.

But my two oldest sons have lived away from here for a long time; one is only four hours away, while the other lives in Berlin! So twelve hours away for this youngest son doesn’t seem that far…right?

Thanks for stopping by, Michelle, and enjoy your reading.

  4. I love the Maleficent statue that you have (the dragon). I wish I lived closer to family. My husband and I don’t live closer to our siblings or parents and it makes me sad as I get older. My goal now it to try to get back to where they live. We’ll see… it seems to be we need to live where there are jobs. Have a good week.

    1. Yes, the need to work and live where there are jobs certainly keeps us from places we might like to be. Thanks for stopping by, Angie, and I love the figurine, too. I have some collections of these “fairytale images” from Jim Shore.

    1. Thanks, Nyze…I love having them stashed away, and then bringing them out for the seasons.

And yes, I’m going to miss my son and his wife, especially since they don’t go on FB or e-mail very often. I’ll have to visit them in person.

      1. I’m thinking of digging up my Mom’s decoration stash too. I believe she have tons! Yeah. Visiting in person is much better that chatting and sending email anyway ♥

It stink when family had to move away, but it gives you an excuse to do more traveling! Those turkey and pilgrim thanksgiving pieces are just too cute! 🙂

  6. Ah– I pulled out one October decoration so far and keep thinking I need to find (make) time to change table cloths and side board decorations. It just isn’t easy for me.
I like your Sparky reading choices. 🙂 Owen’s Daughter looks interesting. Is that family drama though? Not my fav genre. (I can be so shallow when I just want entertainment and not serious material.)
The Corn Maiden looks appropriate for an October read.
    Enjoy your reading.

    1. Yes, I think I bought The Corn Maiden during the fall around three years ago…it has been sitting on the stacks, patiently waiting. Thanks for visiting, Martha, and my fall decorations are in the hall closet, and easy to grab.

    1. Thanks, Cheryl, and yes, Jim Shore…a favorite of mine. I have his stuff all over the house! LOL; a lot of it is the fairytale stuff, but I also have Christmas figurines…and angels.

Enjoy your week….I’m trying to catch up on the older books on my shelves.

  7. Hi Lorraine,

My niece is just about to head off from the UK, to work in Disney World Florida for a year and even though we assume she will be coming back at the end of her placement, it will still be a wrench to see her getting on that plane!

I hope that the move goes smoothly for your son and I am sure that you will still be in touch all the time and see him regularly.

I quite like the sound of ‘River Road’ and ‘Crooked River’, so I shall be looking out for those two.

October is still a couple of days away and it still doesn’t seem possible, given the relative heatwave we seem to have here right now … and the pundits say it is due to last right until November!

    Take Care and Happy Reading,

    Yvonne.

How did you get into the Vine program, hey jealousy! That’s awesome!

    1. Thanks, Sam, I love that turkey too! And the American cover of Gillespies exactly depicts something from the story…I love when that happens!

I have not read anything by this author before, but she will be another new favorite for my list.

I hope the family party went well. The only one of your books I’be read is River Road. I’m a big fan of Krentz and enjoyed it. Come see my week here. Happy reading!

    1. I have been a fan of both for a long while, although some of JCO’s books I enjoy more than others.

The first Marge Piercy book I read was in the seventies, and we read it for book club: Small Changes. We all thought it resonated with our experiences at the time.

      Thanks for stopping by, JoAnn.

  10. Great selection of book, Laurel-Rain. I have only read Quiet.I too thought it read like a text book. My sister recommended it to me. Love your Jim Shore figurines. He is so talented and it’s fun to really look at his work. I will be rearranging my decor this week too. Fall is my favorite season. Enjoy your reading week.

    1. I bought a lot of Jim Shore figurines from 2002-2006, and then decided they had taken over the house! But I’m glad to have them to bring out for special occasions. I have some that are out all the time. Thanks for visiting, jkb, and I am looking forward to the new books too.

It’s been warmer here (NE Ohio) the past few weeks than all summer. And I’m not a fan, because I’m ready for fall. 🙂 I like the cooler temps and I hope they show up soon. I’m probably the only person who feels that way, while everyone else is holding on to summer as long as they can.

Have a great week and enjoy your reads!

  12. I read Gone to Soldiers by Marge Piercy years ago and thoroughly enjoyed it. I’m slowly resigning myself to fall. I picked up my first horror novel of the season at the library today and I’ll put out Halloween decorations this weekend. I actually like fall, I just hate that it heralds winter. Enjoy your week!
