Good morning! Today’s post will link up to Sunday Salon, The Sunday Post, and Book Journey, for What Are You Reading?
**Mailbox Monday is now hosted at the home site: Mailbox Monday.
Did your week speed by, too? And now that the month is over, it’s time to do wrap-ups. But before we dive into the blog posts, etc., I must share that I saw Labor Day at the theater on Friday…and loved it!
The ending to the movie had me sitting near the edge of my seat…which is kind of surprising, since I’d read the book. But don’t you enjoy watching scenes playing out visually, even if you know what is probably going to happen?
And speaking of movies, I just watched the DVD for Enough Said, with Julia Louis-Dreyfus and James Gandolfini…such a poignant film, filled with authentic moments and the kind of awkwardness we can expect in the situations that are unfolding: Middle-aged empty-nesters trying to forge new relationships, with an unexpected twist.
After the movie on Friday, I went to my favorite neighborhood bistro, and here’s what my fortune cookie said: Now is the best time for you to be spontaneous. Serendipity!
Seriously? LOL

I saw Labor Day but hadn’t read the book- I keep wondering what the differences are between them. I hope you like Glitter and Glue as much as I did – I thought it was great! Looking forward to your thoughts on Still Life With Breadcrumbs. I am excited that she has a new book out.

Oh, I’m excited about Quindlen’s new book, too. And yes, there were some differences between the book and the movie, but not so much that it felt different. Thanks for stopping by, Colleen, and enjoy your week.

Parts of Labor Day were filmed near my work so I may go see it for that alone, though I haven’t read the book.
You got lots of books in and several, including The Innocent Sleep, look really good. Happy reading!

I kept trying to figure out where it was filmed….parts of it resemble Northern California, but I’m sure it was on the East Coast. Maine?
Thanks for stopping by, Bea, and enjoy your week.

Thanks for the movie recommendation. I didn’t realize there was a book too, so I’ll be sure to read it before seeing the movie. I like to cast a book’s characters with movie stars, so while I’m reading Labor Day, I’ll imagine Kate Winslet and Josh Brolin as the hero and heroine.
LikeLike
When I know there is a movie before reading the book, I also “see” those stars. When I read the book in 2009, I had no such image to pull from. It’s been so long since I read it, that I have no idea what images I conjured in my imagination….but Kate Winslet seems perfect in the role.
Hope you enjoy the book and the movie, Sandra. Joyce Maynard is a favorite author of mine. And thanks for stopping by.

I think that I enjoyed the book more than the movie…but the actors performed very well…I just think there was a departure from the book in the end. However, still a wonderful movie. Thanks for stopping by, Peggy.

Lots of great looking books.
I am jealous of anyone who gets to go to the movies. I don’t get to go very often having a three year old and all. I did go see Catching Fire with friends back in November. It was a lovely day- book group meeting, Hunger Games re-watch and then movie.
Anwyay, Happy Reading!

I love Anna Quindlen, both her fiction and her memoirs. Some say this book does not shine as much as others, like Rise and Shine (pun?), or One True Thing. It’s too early to tell, and I don’t like to compare the books from a favorite author. So far, I’m enjoying it. Thanks for stopping by, Teddyree, and I’m also looking forward to Sarah Addison Allen.
