Good morning to those that have joined us in today’s Sunday Salon. Welcome to another week in which we share our thoughts about reading, life, and whatever….
I almost didn’t write this post today, because this past week has been a little…well, less-than. In terms of reading, that is.
But we also can celebrate our creative moments…right? And I did have a great writing week! Read my update HERE at CREATIVE MOMENTS.
The WIP I worked on this week (Defining Moments) could be a cautionary tale for writers and bloggers. I’ll be posting a blurb on this one soon!
Yesterday was my daughter’s birthday, and I celebrated some moments with her at her weekend job as a bartender. Here’s a photo she shared recently.
I also enjoyed seeing the movie The Help with some friends, after which we had a great lunch nearby.
I don’t often say this, or find it to be true…but I actually enjoyed the movie MORE than the book! And I LOVED the book!!
So, if you haven’t already, you really should see this one!!
For some of us older folk (LOL), the best part was recognizing many of the defining moments that surrounded that time. The little a-ha epiphanies that might slip past some of you younger people. But you don’t have to have that “click” to enjoy this film….

Since I’ve been avoiding the book talk—yes, that’s what some of this other stuff was about!—you might have guessed that my reading week was not stellar.

And today I’ll be reading this one:

Yes, indeed, Deb. High praise and that doesn’t happen for me very often. Maybe it was the great cast, which, as Doris pointed out, brought the book alive.

I loved The Help movie. I was pleasantly surprised to see the casting choices really brought the book alive. This week my goal is to work on writing daily as well as keep up with the reading. Names my Sisters Call Me is next on my list to read, can’t wait to see what you think of it.

I’m just going to have to hire a babysitter and get myself to the theater to watch that movie. I don’t think there’s any other way it’s going to happen unless I just wait until it comes out on dvd.

Some movies I can wait for the DVD, but this one wasn’t one of them. It needed that whole theater experience and the sounds of others sighing or laughing around me. I hope you can get the sitter, Alyce. Thanks for stopping by.

You definitely accomplished more reading than I did this week! I started the final volume of Karl Marx’s Capital but didn’t get too far! I hate to say it, but I really wasn’t familiar with the book The Help until I got an email from Amazon saying there was still time to read the book before the movie came out! I must either have my head buried in the sand, or I simply wasn’t paying attention! We might end up getting the movie on Netflix when it comes out on DVD as we really don’t go to too many movies due to the cost.
This week, I plan on tackling more of my Karl Marx while dogsitting for friends! Here’s my post.

I have 2 Kristin Hannah books that I haven’t read yet, but I hope that I get a chance to get to them soon!
I’m dying to see The Help! I’m also dying to read the book. I really hope I get to it soon, and I’ve seen rave reviews about the movie so I don’t think that it will be disappointing!

No, I don’t anticipate much disappointment with this movie. The cast alone makes it worthwhile, not to mention the awesome story.

I offered to take my grandmother to see The Help and I didn’t really think she would go because she doesn’t like to go out much. I just found out that she’s been telling everyone that she can’t wait to see it with me! Yay! We both loved the book. I’m glad to hear it’s great!
